The power of working together Experiences and evidence

Experiences and evidence

A growing number of people around the world recognise how much work through systemic constellations and practices of presence brings clarity, relief and a new perspective in everyday life. Experience shows that these approaches contribute to emotional stability, better relationships, greater inner balance and a deeper sense of meaning and connection with oneself.

Stories of transformation

Experiences

Authentic experiences of workshop and training participants bear witness to personal change, healed relationships and a renewed sense of inner ease and inner freedom. These are stories of relief, strength and a new beginning:

"After the workshop, for the first time in many years, I talked with my father. I felt incredible relief and peace."
"The training taught me how to support others, and also how to be there for myself."
"I realised that much of what I had been carrying was not mine, and only then could I let go."
Vasilije

Silent helplessness

Vasilije had erection problems, even though the doctors said he was healthy. He felt shame and withdrew from relationships.

At the workshop it emerged that his grandfather had been castrated in a camp, and that trauma remained as a silent wound in the male line.

The relief came when Vasilije said: "Dear grandfather, I, just like you, cannot have relationships, because I love you. Now I give back to you what is yours. My masculinity is mine and I live it freely."

Afterwards he said: "I feel as if I have regained the strength in my body."

Ljubica

Fleeing the body

Ljubica had attacks of dizziness and a feeling of being "outside her body". She would say: "It's as if I'm not here."

At the workshop it came to light that her great-grandmother had died in childbirth, while the child survived. This was never spoken of. Ljubica was carrying her invisible departure.

Relief came when she said: "Great-grandmother, your death belongs to you. I remain here, in my body, in life."

Afterwards she said: "For the first time I feel that I am standing firmly on the ground."

Nemanja

Constant guilt

Nemanja felt guilty even when he had done nothing wrong. He would say: "It is as if I constantly owe an apology."

At the workshop it was revealed that his great-grandfather had been branded a "traitor" and killed without trial. The family carried a sense of shame and guilt for generations.

Relief came when Nemanja said: "Dear grandfather, I see you and I see the injustice that happened to you, but I am not you. From today I will live my own life for myself, not yours and for you."

Later he said: "I breathe more easily, as if I have taken a stone off my shoulders."

Jelica

Failures in love

Jelica had a series of failed relationships, and each time it ended with her partner leaving suddenly, without explanation.

At the workshop it emerged that her grandmother had been in a relationship with a man who was killed, and this was kept silent. For her, love meant loss, and that pattern was passed on.

The relief came when she said: "Grandmother, I honour your lost love. My love is free and safe."

Afterwards she said: "For the first time I feel that a relationship doesn't automatically mean pain."

Sofija

An illness that repeats

Sofija had unexplained kidney problems, even though her test results were good. She said she was "afraid they would fail."

Read the story →

At the workshop it came to light that her father and great-grandfather had died of kidney disease, and the family story was full of sentences like: "In our family, kidneys are weak."

Relief came when she said: "My dear ones, I acknowledge your illnesses, but I am not obliged to repeat them. My body belongs to me."

Later she said: "I feel as if my kidneys are finally mine."

At the workshop it emerged that three generations of his ancestors had been refugees: they fled from Lika, then from Bosnia, then from Slavonia. His body continued their restlessness.

Relief came when he said: "My dear ones, you had to flee. Now I have the right to stay and put down roots."

Afterwards he said: "It is as if, for the first time, I felt the wish to make a home."

Emina

Lost faith

Emina felt a deep emptiness and a loss of meaning. She would say: "It is as if I have no soul."

At the workshop it came to light that in her family, priests and monks had been persecuted, and some killed, after the Second World War. This was never spoken of, but their faith remained as a silent wound.

The relief came when she said: "Dear ancestors, I honour your faith and your suffering. Now I choose to open my soul to God in my own way."

Later she said: "I feel peace, as if someone has switched on a light inside me."

Stojan

Violence as a shadow

Stojan grew up with a constant fear that he would lose control and become violent. Whenever he got angry, his hands would shake and he would withdraw into solitude.

Read the story →

At the workshop it was revealed that his grandfather had been known for his violence, he beat his children and his wife, and this was kept silent. He carried the fear that he would "repeat the blood."

Relief came when he said: "Grandfather, I leave the consequences of your deeds with you, I choose peace and tenderness."

Afterwards he said: "For the first time I feel that I can get angry without it meaning that I will hurt someone."

Bojana

The burden of infertility

For years Bojana had been trying to get pregnant. All her medical results were normal, but the pregnancy simply would not come. She felt guilty and helpless.

Read the story →

At the workshop it emerged that her grandmother had lost three children in the war and never wanted to give birth again, saying: "I won't make children for death." That sentence remained in the family unconscious.

Relief came when Bojana said: "Grandmother, I respect your losses, but my womb belongs to my time and my life."

Later she said: "It's as if I have regained the right to be a mother."

Đorđe

The burden of ancestors' debts

Đorđe felt that he never had enough money. No matter how much he earned, everything always "slipped through his fingers".

Read the story →

At the workshop it was revealed that his great-grandfather had gambled away the whole estate and that this was kept silent as a great shame. That feeling of loss and debt was passed on unconsciously to the descendants.

Relief came when Đorđe said: "Dear grandfather, I acknowledge your debts and leave them with you. I have the right to my own prosperity and to keep what is mine."

Later he said: "I feel that for the first time money can stay with me, instead of running away."

Ivana

The unwanted twin

Ivana grew up feeling that she was "taking up space". She was always apologising for existing. At the workshop it was revealed that she had been a twin, her twin brother had died at birth. Her parents kept it silent, and Ivana felt that she was "taking up the place of two".

The relief came when she said: "Brother, you have your place in my heart, and I have the right to my own space and my own life."

Later she said: "For the first time I feel that I am not an intruder in this world."

Katarina

The invisible woman

Katarina came because she constantly felt unnoticed. At work no one took her seriously, and in her family she was "the one who adapts".

Read the story →

Through the work it came to light that her grandmother had been born out of wedlock, hidden and unacknowledged, and that she lived her life in silence. That "invisibility" was passed on.

Relief came when Katarina said: "Grandmother, you were denied your place, but I choose to be seen and acknowledged."

After the workshop she said: "I feel that I have the right to exist in the light of day."

Scientific research

Evidence

Systemic constellations are not only an experience, they are also a subject of research. Here are studies on the effects of constellation work. The results are encouraging, and the authors emphasise that more research is needed.

Practices based on the systemic approach are increasingly applied in work with families, teams, educational institutions and organisations. This method offers a unique insight into the unconscious dynamics that influence the behaviour and choices of individuals.

Systemic constellations as a tool for organisational learning and change

System constellations as a tool supporting organisational learning and change processes

Birkenkrahe, M., International Journal of Learning and Change, 2008

Summary

The paper shows that the method of systemic constellations can be used successfully in an organisational context, especially for overcoming resistance to change and supporting collective learning in teams and companies. The analysis of case studies indicates that constellations contribute to understanding hidden dynamics in an organisation and enable sustainable solutions in complex situations.

Family constellations as a new approach to working with non-local consciousness

Family Constellation Therapy: A Nascent Approach for Working with Non-Local Consciousness in a Therapeutic Container

Dan Cohen, PhD, Progress in Biophysics and Molecular Biology, 2024

Summary

This theoretical paper presents family constellations as an innovative therapeutic approach that involves working with non-local consciousness, a consciousness that transcends the personal and linear time. The author connects the concepts of quantum consciousness, the observer effect and the epigenetic transmission of trauma, using the phenomenological method and the representative perception characteristic of constellation work. The paper presents four case studies. The author emphasises the need for further empirical research to confirm the scientific grounding of this approach.

The effectiveness of family constellation therapy in improving mental health: a systematic review

The Effectiveness of Family Constellation Therapy in Improving Mental Health: A Systematic Review

Konkolÿ Thege B, Petroll C, Rivas C, Scholtens S, Family Process, 60(2), 409–423, 2021

Summary

The systematic review and meta-analysis covered 12 prospective studies with a total of 568 participants. Statistically significant improvements were found in 9 studies, and a meta-analysis of 5 studies on general psychopathology showed a medium effect (Hedges g≈0.53). The authors state that the overall quality of evidence is low, but that there is a consistent tendency towards positive outcomes. Adverse effects occurred in 5-8% of participants, mostly of mild or moderate intensity.
