What is lasting happiness? It is not a moment of euphoria, nor a reward for goals achieved. Lasting happiness is the natural state of a being that no longer seeks a reason to be at peace. It comes spontaneously, from within, when we stop trying to shape the world according to our own ideas and begin to observe ourselves and life from a space of understanding and acceptance.
In the practice of presence, we learn not to identify with our mind, emotions or expectations. Happiness does not depend on events, but on our inner ability to accept the present moment without resistance. When we let go of the need for control and stop fighting reality, space is freed for true joy, the joy that does not depend on anything outside.
In the systemic approach, we understand that what we experience is neither accidental nor unjust. Our reality is an expression of inner patterns, often unconsciously inherited from the family system, collective traumas and personal experiences. Our entanglements are the sum of these patterns. They are the emotional reactions, fears and desires that shape the course of our life. By changing these inner imprints, we also change the course of our experiences.
The Systemic Affirmations we use to integrate unprocessed emotions allow us to release the energy trapped in the unconscious and transform it into a conscious vibration of Love. We do not change life from the outside; we change ourselves, and life becomes different.
As Nisargadatta said, happiness is not a feeling we have to earn, it is a state freed from the interpretations of the mind. It arises when we realize that the nature of reality is neither pleasant nor unpleasant, it simply is, and we become witnesses of the flow of life without resistance.
In the Orthodox spiritual tradition, the state of lasting happiness is recognized as inner peace and quiet joy in God. The Holy Fathers speak of hesychia, that is, inner recollection, the silence of a soul that has stopped judging, measuring and seeking. In that silence, the unquenchable light of divine joy is revealed, untouched by outer circumstances and eternal in its essence.
In Buddhism, lasting happiness does not arise from satisfying desires, but from freedom from attachment. According to the Buddha's teaching, the cause of suffering is not pain, but attachment to what is transient. To thoughts, emotions, relationships, the body, time.
In Hinduism, happiness is not acquired, it is recognized once the ignorance (avidya) that prevents us from realizing who we are is removed. The Bhagavad Gita says: “One who is content with the self and in the self finds imperishable happiness.” Happiness, then, is not “adding” something, but discovering what is already there, in the silence of being.
From a scientific point of view, especially through positive psychology, lasting happiness is not euphoria, but a stable state of well-being that includes gratitude, presence and meaning. Martin Seligman distinguishes hedonic happiness (pleasure) from eudaimonic happiness, which arises from living in accordance with one's own values and purpose.
But science is still seeking answers to the question: Why do some people radiate peace and joy in difficult conditions, while others suffer despite outer abundance?
Here we arrive at what cannot be measured. Inner acceptance, spiritual clarity and the grace that some call God, some empty space, and some the light of awareness.
That is why lasting happiness is a quiet state in which we no longer ask life to be different.
In it, peace is not the result of control, but the outcome of surrender.
Joy does not come from outside, nor from an ideal moment, but from within, when we recognize that we do not have to “be someone” in order to be whole.
Lasting happiness is therefore not a goal. It is the state of a Spirit that has recognized itself.

All it takes is conscious intention. And the path of conscious intention does not ask for perfection, but for presence. It does not ask us to know everything, but to be ready to open up.
The first step is not big. But it is true.
And when it is true, it is already bright.
